Let’s Talk About Vanuatu Boar Tusk
The full circled tusk is unique to the Melanesian culture and are cultivated almost exclusively in the islands of Vanuatu.
In the Melanesian culture, boars grown for tusks play a very important role in the lives of the local people.
They are a token of wealth and status and being used as essential currency in the traditional life.
The tusks are grown on the local domesticated boars, called “Tusker” boars, those boars are highly prized and in Melanesia’s culture, were seen as equal to men and valued above women. It takes 8-20 years or more of cultivating the boar to achieve full circled tusks.
Each Tusk Jewellery created by Vanuatu Bijouterie is the result of dozens of hours of careful work and meticulous precision.
Mounted with pearls, gemstones and precious metals, bejeweled tusks are Vanuatu Bijouterie’s cultural pride.

Supporting local communities
When you purchase from Vanuatu Bijouterie part of the purchase price reach the furthest communities. Traditionally, the value of the tusker boar only lasts while the boar is alive. Gifting a tusker boar means gifting endless hours of caring and nourishing the boar, the longer the tusks the higher the value.
After the boar’s death the tusks are removed and used as a traditional currency for payment of community dues, school fees etc. Vanuatu Bijouterie is sourcing its tusks, stones, shells, wood and other exotic raw materials from the remote island communities that welcome the cash to pay for education & supplement their traditional economy.
