A house remains healthy when its structures are moisture-safe and otherwise intact. Honka’s proven structures form the foundation of a healthy house and ensure its durability.

Moisture-safe wall structure

The exterior walls of our log houses are made of solid wood material, making them secure and safe in terms of how they react to moisture. Structures with a single material are safer than layered wall structures. As a single-component structure, a solid log wall does not have interfaces between different layers where moisture could condense. In logs and other wood products, we use carefully selected and tested adhesives that allow moisture to pass through and preserve the natural breathability of the wood. The durability of the adhesive joints in our logs is tested during manufacture in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 9001 quality system and ISO 14001 environmental management system.

Thanks to our patented solution, we can also build insulated log walls with natural materials without plastic layers. We can thus maintain the breathability of the structure like in our log walls. When insulation is needed, we prefer wood fibre insulation, which preserves the natural properties of the log.

Moisture-safe roof structure

For the upper roof structure of our houses we have developed a moisture-safe solution that is of higher quality than conventional ones. We recommend intelligent moisture barrier fabric and wood fibre insulation, allowing moisture transfer and the drying of structures in both directions.
