Healthy materials in a log home

Honka healthy houses are built using natural wood from Nordic pine or spruce trees. These premium trees grow in clean and natural forests in Finland, where the air has been found to be cleanest in the world according to a 2024 international study.

Massive wooden Honka log walls form the basis of our healthy house. The antibacterial substances of Honka logs naturally promote a healthier indoor environment.

In addition to natural materials, a healthy home requires other materials that are clean and safe and that release as few synthetic pollutants into the air as possible.

The adhesives we use for the premium Honka logs are safe and low-emission M1 approved products. The adhesives do not contain formaldehyde.

Antibacterial wood in Honka log homes

Living Nordic pine and spruce trees protect themselves against mold, rot and insects with antibacterial natural wood compounds, which are the tree’s own medicine.

The natural antibacterial compounds in Honka log walls have been scientifically shown to reduce harmful bacteria and microbes from surfaces and indoor air. This means your Honka home not only remains structurally sound but actively contributes to better air quality and a cleaner living space.

The contaminated wooden surface was then compared to a glass surface treated with the same bacteria. On the wooden surface, the bacteria died or their number reduced within a few hours, whereas on the glass surface they survived for much longer.
